Digital technologies
Years 5/6 Content descriptors
Define problems in terms of data and functional requirements, and identify features similar to previously solved problems (ACTDIP017) Investigate the main components of common digital systems, their basic functions and interactions, and how such digital systems may connect together to form networks to transmit data (ACTDIK014) |

This Digital Technologies is a formative learning resource has been developed to guide students in investigating the main components of common digital systems and their basic functions and interactions, through acquiring, storing and validating different types of data. This will be achieved through students locating and manually input data through the activity 'Greenhill Bay's Biggest Morning Tea' followed by utilising commonly available software, such as Excel to interpret and visualise data based on simple functions, thus providing students opportunities to consider the use and impact of technological solutions.
What's next?
Now that students are beginning to develop a sound understanding about organisation of data and coding within databases, slowly introduce how these forms of information are are shared through networking systems by elaborating on functions of the world wide web and its ability to store information in 'clouds'.
